Why add EQ Pro if you already use focused shockwave therapy?

Focused shockwave therapy is a valuable tool in equine sports medicine, delivering high-energy acoustic pressure pulses concentrated at a focal target. EQ Pro Therapy provides something different: 38-kHz low-frequency ultrasound that delivers mechanical acoustic energy with cavitation, acoustic streaming and thermal effects. 1. Low-frequency ultrasound: a different acoustic stimulus
.

5. A different treatment experience for the horse

Focused shockwave therapy delivers a substantially more intense acoustic stimulus and can cause discomfort during treatment as well as temporary soreness afterward. In equine practice, ESWT often requires standing sedation and patient restraint to facilitate a safe treatment session. [5]

EQ Pro Therapy allows gentler, repeatable sessions that provide cumulative mechanical stimulation and can be incorporated into an ongoing equine rehabilitation program. This approach may be useful when the treatment goal includes:

EQ Pro does not produce the analgesic effect associated with ESWT. Shockwave-induced analgesia can persist for several days after treatment and may temporarily mask pain, potentially allowing a horse to exercise before the injured tissue is ready. This is recognized as an important concern for the safety of the horse and rider and one of the reasons for restrictions on ESWT use close to competition. [5]

6. Published EQ Pro Therapy evidence in horses
.
Published studies have evaluated EQ Pro Therapy in horses. In a study of 23 sport horses with suspensory-ligament injuries, 20 horses were reported to benefit, and 87% returned to competition following EQ Pro treatment and rehabilitation. Treatment was well tolerated and did not require sedation. [6]

A separate study evaluated EQ Pro in eight horses with painful, atrophied shoulder muscles. Following 10 EQ Pro treatments, significant improvements were found in muscle cellular health, muscle efficiency, coordination and force production, with improvements persisting through the six-month follow-up. [7]

The broader low-frequency ultrasound literature also includes controlled clinical research. A systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated eight randomized controlled trials of low-frequency ultrasound as an adjunctive therapy for chronic wound healing. [8]

Low-frequency ultrasound has also been investigated experimentally for effects on fibroblast proliferation and collagen type I expression, providing additional support for its potential role in tissue remodeling. [9]

7. Designed for equine veterinary practice
